Many offices are smaller in the post-COVID era, but that hasn’t slowed reliance on computer networking equipment to drive bottom lines – and it has actually made wall-mounted cabinets even more popular. Whether in a high-rise suite or in a home office, wall-mounted cabinets allow you to fit more equipment into a room, closet, or hallway without taking up valuable floor space.

Let’s discuss a few more of their benefits.

Going Vertical

Besides freeing up floor space, wall-mounted cabinets let you take advantage of previously unused vertical spaces. If you’ve never tried a vertical wall enclosure, you should check them out. They position components sideways to take up less space. For instance, our 2U vertical enclosure extends only 4.5 inches from the wall, and our 6U only 11.5 inches. Such low-profile enclosures can fit just about anywhere, from hallways to busy retail spaces to cramped IT closets.

Vertical wall cabinets also hold deeper components (up to 36 inches) than horizontal wall cabinets do (up to 22 inches).

Plenty of Room

While floor-standing network racks generally can hold more, wall-mount cabinets might accommodate more than you think. ShowMeCables offers wall cabinets in 16 heights, from 2U to 35U, and nine rack depths from 16 inches all the way to 36 inches. Most of our wall cabinets can hold from 130 to 150 pounds of gear, and some models can support up to 200 pounds.

Rear Access

You might think wall cabinets make it difficult to reach the back of your components where so many cable connections are located. There are two designs that remedy this. First, with vertical wall cabinets you open the enclosure door, and both the front and rear of your components are visible, allowing you to get to the cable ins and outs. Second, our Middle Atlantic sectional wall-mount enclosures are hinged on one side to allow you to swing open the rack for full access to rear connections.

Blending In

Wall cabinets are at eye level so they’re easier to see, which might make a small room look smaller. That’s one reason we now offer a full line of wall units in our “signal white” color. White wall enclosures give a room a modern aesthetic and blend in with light-colored walls for a more spacious feel. We also carry a line of 10-inch-width gray wall cabinets.

Pro Features

Wall cabinets are, on average, a bit smaller than their floor-standing cousins, but they aren’t short on pro features that make your job easier. Below we mention only a few:

  • They’re made of heavy-duty steel for strength and long life.
  • They have locking front and side doors for security.
  • You can choose either a perforated metal door for added ventilation or a tempered glass door for monitoring rack components.
  • Most of our models have cutouts in the top panel for cooling fans.
  • Some come preassembled with two shelves and a 1U blank panel for trouble-free installation.
  • Get even more room-space efficiency from 10-inch-wide wall-mount cabinets in either horizontal or vertical orientation, 6U or 9U, black or gray.

Summary

With office space at a premium, network cabinets that mount to a wall make you more space efficient. They’re smaller than some floor-standing enclosures, but not by much, and they share the same pro features of floor racks. For the ultimate in low-profile, vertical cabinets and 10-inch-wide cabinets are the way to go. And finally, certain wall-mount designs allow instant access to the back of your components.
