Bulk Cable

We have written before about the benefits of buying your cable in bulk lengths rather than in shorter pre-made cable assemblies. Bulk cable allows you to cut custom lengths to perfectly fit your installation, it costs less, and with less excess slack in your network it is easier to perform maintenance.

However, in past blog posts we have centered mostly on our wide selection of bulk Ethernet cable, from Cat5e up to Cat8. This time we are highlighting 6 of the 11 other types of bulk cable we offer.

Bulk Savings

At ShowMeCables, buying bulk cable means buying by the foot or by the spool, with a spool typically measuring 500 or 1,000 feet. The general rule is that the more feet or more spools you buy, the less you pay per foot.

The savings can be considerable. For instance, for some types of coaxial cable, our price for 1,000 feet is 20% to 30% less per foot than if you buy up to 49 feet of coax. With other types of cable the bulk savings is in the 13% to 18% range.

Below we list and link all 15 types of cable we offer in bulk, with some helpful details about 6 of them: fiber optic, 10 GX, VFD, telephone, audio and video, and portable cable.

Bulk Fiber Optic Cable

Though copper Ethernet cables are still the standard for most business connectivity, some scenarios benefit from a switch to bulk fiber optic cable. Fiber transmits more information faster, over longer distances, and with no threat of electromagnetic interference. That’s why it is often the choice for systems that demand high bandwidth over long distances, as well as short distances with large bandwidth requirements such as data centers.

One key benefit of buying fiber cable in bulk is the ability to better position your network for the future. If you believe you will be using more fiber connectivity in the years ahead, having extra lengths of it close at hand makes good sense.

We have more than 175 types of fiber optic cable that are available in bulk. These include indoor, outdoor, single mode, multimode, simplex, duplex, distribution cable, dry loose tube fiber, and much more. Special features include direct burial, armored, and self-supporting bow-type drop cable.

Bulk 10 GX Cable

Our bulk 10 GX cable can handle 10-gigabit wireless, is made by Belden, and can be used in Belden IBDN 10GX systems. Typically it is used in premise horizontal cabling, which connects the telecom room or data center to individual work areas within a building. We offer it in CMR and CMP versions.

  • CMR is “communication riser” cable designed for use in vertical riser applications, which are the pathways that carry communication cables between different floors in a building. It is suitable for general data and voice communications.
  • CMP is “communication plenum” cable. Plenum describes the space within a building where air circulation for HVAC systems takes place − usually above drop ceilings and below raised floors. Plenum cable is required to meet specific fire safety standards to ensure it does not contribute to the spread of fire or produce harmful smoke.

Bulk Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) Cable

A variable frequency drive (VFD) is used to control the speed and torque of electric motors by varying the frequency and voltage of the power supplied to the motor. VFDs are commonly used in industrial and commercial applications to achieve energy savings, precise motor control, and reduced wear and tear on mechanical systems.

VFD cables handle the unique electrical characteristics of VFD operation. They reliably carry power from AC drive systems to motors, extend motor life, reduce corona discharge, reduce magnitude of standing waves, increase efficiency of power transfer, handle high-voltage spikes, and are sunlight and oil resistant.

We offer bulk VFD cable in capacities of 600, 1,000, or 2,000 volts, and in 15 wire gauges from 2 AWG to 250 MCM.

Bulk Telephone Cable

Telephone cable is useful in bulk lengths because no two phone installations are identical. Our options of buying by the foot or in 1,000-foot rolls will allow you to customize with the exact lengths you need. Following are some of your options:

  • Cat3 cable in riser-, plenum-, or outdoor-rated PVC
  • Cat5 indoor/outdoor cable used as cross connect wire for 66/110 blocks
  • Cat5e cable with a solid conductor for high performance over longer distances
  • Flat modular line cord for easy stripping and crimping and small-space installs
  • Direct burial cable tough enough for placement underground or in ducts

Bulk Audio and Video Cable

Like telephone installations, A/V setups are each unique. Bulk audio and video cable is the best way to go for such custom configurations. NavePoint has more than several dozen options, including:

  • Security camera power wire for PTZ cameras
  • Cables for instruments, microphones, or pro lighting
  • Speaker wire options for indoors, outdoors, or direct burial
  • 4K UHD media cable
  • Siamese cable that combines Cat5e and speaker wire
  • HDMI cable that allows use of HD signals without converting your entire system

Bulk Portable Cable

Bulk portable cable is used where flexibility, durability, and resistance to environmental factors are especially important. NavePoint offers it in SOOW, SJOOW, and SJOW.

  • SOOW is service grade (with rubber insulation and jacket), has oil-resistant insulation, and wears an oil- and weather-resistant jacket. Uses: indoors and outdoors in industrial settings and construction sites, particularly for power distribution, control circuits, and portable tools.
  • SJOOW is junior service grade (TPE insulation and jacket) and has oil-resistant insulation and an oil- and weather-resistant jacket. The thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) provides flexibility and resistance to environmental factors. Uses: lighter-duty applications, such as household appliances, power extension cords, portable tools, and small machinery.
  • SJOW has oil-resistant insulation and a weather-resistant jacket. It is more flexible and lightweight than SOOW and SJOOW cables. It is oil-resistant, but not as much as SOOW and SJOOW cables. Uses: indoors where oil exposure is not a big concern, such as for small appliances, power supply cords, and equipment connection.
