Hello and welcome to Show Me Cables. Today, we’ll be taking a look at wiring splitters. This is the 10/100 BaseT wiring splitter with 07 wiring. Before we get into the features and applications I want to clear up a common area of confusion. This wiring splitter is used for control signals and will not work for splitting your ethernet signal. Now that that’s out of the way, let’s get into how the splitter works. The wiring splitter features two female RJ45 ports and a short 6 inch cable with a male RJ45 plug. For anyone not entirely clear on RJ45’s. RJ45 is the larger plug found on Ethernet cables, not the smaller plug, known as RJ11 or RJ12 that you would find on a telephone cord. The splitter also has the option to be easily wall mounted and includes the necessary mounting screws. How it works, is that it will allow you to split a control signal. This is typically used for many lighting and security systems applications. You can plug the splitter into your control system taking one signal and splitting it into two signals. Let’s take a look at an example using a lighting system. You can plug the splitter into a control hub. Then split the signal to two lights instead of one. For some applications this can then be daisy chained into a whole series of lights, so that one control signal can communicate with an entire array. Hello, and welcome to Show Me Cables. Today, we’ll be taking a look at reverse polarity coax connectors. Coax connectors come in a variety of shapes and styles, but by far the most common problem when properly identifying them is when it comes to reverse polarity. The most common connectors available in reverse polarity are: BNC, SMA, TNC and N connectors. Just as a quick recap, coax connectors will typically come in either a Male or Female orientation. A standard Male connector will have threads on the inside of the connector and a solid Male pin. A Standard Female connector will have threads on the outside and a hollow Female pin. What causes confusion is that many people believe that identifying the gender relies on whether it has a Male or Female pin, but this is not the case. The gender of the connector is identified by the threads of the connector housing. And the polarity is identified by the pin. Keep that in mind, Polarity is for Pin. If the gender of the pin does not match the gender of the threading, that is what makes it reverse polarity. Let’s take a look at an example using an SMA connector. This connector has threads on the outside, making it a female connector. Remember, the threading will always identify the gender of the connector. The pin of the connector is solid, which means that it is Male, and does not match the gender of the connector. This means that the connector is Reverse Polarity. Now, we’ve identified that it is a female connector and we know it is reverse polarity, so we can correctly identify this as a reverse polarity SMA female connector. There’s one more issue that needs to be cleared up though. I mentioned previously that BNC is available in reverse polarity, but BNC connectors do not have threading. The connector housing of a BNC can be identified by how the connector locks. If the housing has a locking channel, it’s gender is Male. If the housing has locking bolts, the gender is

When it comes to choosing a switch or splitter, you may not know which one you need. Well we here at Show Me Cables are here to help. For today’s example, we’re going to be using HDMI as our signal type. But these principals will apply to any switch or splitter you may need. Let’s start with an HDMI switch A switch is used when you have multiple source devices, like a blu ray player, cable box, or gaming system and want to run them into a single TV or monitor. All 3 devices will plug into the switch. Then a single cable can be run from the switch into the display. Allowing you to choose between which input you would like to see. Now let’s look at the splitter A splitter is used when you have one source device and you want to send your signal to multiple displays. So you would take a single cable from your source into the splitter. Then, you can run multiple cables from the splitter to all of your displays. So to recap: A switch is used when you want to share multiple devices on one display. A splitter is used when you want to send one signal to multiple displays.
